One painting, one photo of the west

the above painting is a painting of the trail of tears, as the Native Americans were relocated to other lands, the frontier continued to push them further and further west.

a photo of a much romanticised west, cowboys sitting around on the porch of a bar. the typical image of an old western culture.

Interesting that these are both, as you say Tim, highly romanticised. Given that, it would be interesting to think about the emotions stirred by 'Trail of Tears' and what viewpoints they imply. Does it make you sad or angry? If sad, does that make the genocide of native Americans seem inevitable, and nobody's fault? What is the significance of that? Is sadness or anger a more appropriate response?

It would be useful to have some context for the saloon picture. Can you tell what racial/ethnic identity the riders have?
